Cameron Wood

Early Musical Experience

Cameron Wood - piano and vocal teacher at The Halls of Music

Cameron Wood began playing the piano at 4 years old and fell in love with playing classical piano music at 13. Throughout her high school years, she attended summer classical piano camps at Stephen F. Austin University in Texas where she studied classical piano under esteemed faculty members. At 16, she began taking private piano lessons from Dr. Ian Altman at Mercer University. Cameron also developed an affinity for classic rock music in high school, which led her to begin taking electric guitar lessons from the Halls of Music’s very own Bobby Hall. She took private lessons from Bobby, as well as performing rock and original music in Bobby’s Rock Band class from age 15 until she graduated high school.

College Education and Experience

Cameron recently graduated from Townsend School of Music at Mercer University with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano Performance and a Composition Certificate. During her time at Mercer, Cameron studied piano with Dr. Ian Altman and Giuliano Graniti, voice with Mrs. Marie Roberts, organ with Dr. Jack Mitchener, composition with Dr. Christopher Schmitz, and conducting with Dr. Stanley Roberts and Dr. Douglas Hill.

Cameron graduated Suma Lum Caude from Mercer University, and received the Excellence in Academics, Excellence in Performance, and General Excellence in Music awards. Cameron also was placed on the Dean’s and President’s list every academic semester. Cameron was a piano soloist in the Townsend School of Music’s Honors Recital in 2021, and the Music Teachers National Association Reaccreditation recital in 2022. Cameron has also received the highest ranking from the Georgia Music Teachers Association Piano Competition as “Outstanding Performer” in 2019, 2020, 2021 as well as the “Award of Excellence” in 2022. She also placed first in Mu Phi Epsilon’s South-East District Piano Competition in 2021. Also while at Mercer, Cameron sang in two of the University’s choirs: Mercer Singers and Women’s Chamber Choir.

Other Experience

Cameron has enjoyed performing music in Macon’s community during her time at Mercer. In 2020, she was the accompanist for a high school choir workshop at the Douglas Theater under the instruction of the choral director Dr. Mark Butler from Florida State University. She has also been the accompanist for vocal soloists at LGPE in 2022. As the former president of Mu Phi Epsilon, Cameron has hosted volunteer musical performances for assisted living homes in Macon. She has also played in various bands as lead vocalist, keyboardist and guitarist, and most recently, in the band the Board Game Club with Emily Hall. Cameron has also performed in various local churches on the piano, keyboard, guitar, bass and vocals.

Currently

Cameron is excited to have become a part of The Halls of Music. She is in her 7th year of teaching music lessons and enjoys teaching her studio of piano and voice students. Along with preparing for solo piano recitals, Cameron is composing piano and vocal works as well as preparing to record a pop-rock album. Cameron is also a worship leader and music director at High Point Church.
