Wedding!
It truly is a unique experience to musically be a part of someone’s wedding ceremony and reception. Being able to provide such a crucial element to one of the most memorable days of someone’s life is so magical. Everyone is in a good mood, love is in the air, God is all around, and there is so much fun to be had.
On Saturday, June 8th, The Halls of Music had the joy and honor of providing the ceremony and reception music for some friends of ours. For the ceremony, our friends requested a guitar and flute duo, and for the reception they requested a guitar and piano duo. What beautiful combinations!
We had such a great time preparing. There’s nothing better than being able to come home from a day of teaching and be able to play music with your best friend and spouse. It’s not work at all! We so much enjoyed coming up with our own guitar/piano arrangements of popular tunes by Billy Joel, Elton John, Michael Buble, The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, and many more. We also learned a special request by the bride and groom for their first dance – Slow Like Honey by Fiona Apple. It’s always great to be exposed to new material and expand our library of music!
The wedding on Saturday was absolutely beautiful, and the weather couldn’t have been nicer for the outdoor ceremony. The flute and guitar selections made by the bride and groom were a perfect fit for their venue and atmosphere. Everything seemed to be perfect! Everybody was so appreciative of the music, and we enjoyed every minute of it. At the cocktail reception,we were technically supposed to be background music, but it turned into quite a show when all the little girls started dancing around to our music. They kept saying, “Play some ballerina music!” So we did our best to make Billy Joel sound like “ballerina music” 😉 It was so much fun.
Needless to say, we can’t wait for our next chance to play a wedding! We are currently working on recording some of our guitar/flute and guitar/piano arrangements to add to YouTube and to make demo CDs. Hopefully that will bring about some more wedding gigs! And remember, referrals are our best form of advertisement 🙂
